Romance, Chocolate and Beautiful Scenery

The Verde Canyon Railroad, in Clarksdale AZ, (about two hours’ drive north of Phoenix) hosts an annual Chocolate Lovers' Festival on Valentine’s weekend, this year Saturday and Sunday, February 11 and 12.

Sweethearts can snuggle up, soothed by the rhythm of the rails, and indulge their craving for chocolate while the train rolls through the wall-to-wall wonderland of the red rock Verde Canyon. During the four-hour ride, they can step outside to the open-air viewing car to catch their breath and marvel as they pass through timeless beauty. Specialty coffees, unique desserts, hot cocoa and sumptuous chocolates are served.

"February is a beautiful month to ride," says Teresa Propeck, marketing director. "The bald and golden eagle populations are at their peak, and the clear waters of the Verde River are a perfect respite for a variety of migrating waterfowl. Many sweethearts who ride in February return to the Verde Canyon Railroad to consecrate their relationship. Getting married on board the train is the epitome of romance and the perfect setting for matrimony. The train's first-class cars are set up for privacy, buffets and refreshment and entertainment.
