Pennsylvania Dutch Country FlavorFest Kicks Off
with Dessert First

The “celebration of food so big it lasts all year” starts in February
with a chocolate extravaganza

With Valentine’s Day, snack-food month, and the continuing chill of winter, February is the perfect time for chocolate. What better time to launch the Pennsylvania Dutch FlavorFest, a celebration of food so big it lasts all year. This year the festival pays homage to food in Pennsylvania Dutch Country and starts in February with the many tastes of chocolate.

Hershey, the town built on chocolate, will mark the month with “Chocolate Covered February.” The resorts and amusements will feature themed chocolate meals, cooking demonstrations, dessert specials and even a chocolate spa sampler.

The FlavorFest “Sweet n’ Salty Trail,” new for 2006, leads behind the scenes to the snack food and treat factories that create these delights. Visitors can enjoy a peek at chocolate-making at Wilbur Chocolate Factory and Candy Americana Museum, or sample organic chocolate from the giant chocolate fountain at Café Chocolate, both in the Lititz, Lancaster County. “Sweet n’ Salty” greats, like the Sturgis Pretzel Factory, Intercourse Pretzel Factory, and Herr’s Snack Foods are also marking February as National Snack Food Month.

Chef Carl at the Harvest Moon Bed and Breakfast brings guests into the kitchen February 2 through 4 for a special “Dutch Dip” chocolate weekend of cooking demonstrations, tours and receptions.
