Delivering Chocolate Pizza and Wings

It was a beautiful summer day in Upstate New York when my husband and I helped to “special deliver” a pizza in a Zimmer. What’s a Zimmer? A Zimmer is a very special neo-classic car manufactured by Art Zimmer in Syracuse, New York. It was only appropriate that a special vehicle should deliver a special pizza. Like the Zimmer, the pizza is unique. It is the world’s best kind—a chocolate pizza! It’s the creation of Bonnie Hanyak, the owner of the Chocolate Pizza Company in Marcellus, a small town near Syracuse.

We accepted Art Zimmer’s invitation to join him on the Zimmer’s test drive. The Golden Spirit Zimmer turned heads as we rode from Syracuse to Marcellus. The warm French Vanilla color, glimmering gold eagle hood ornament, and long sleek lines contributed to the feeling that I was a star filming a scene for the “The Great Gatsby.”

The Zimmer arrived at The Chocolate Pizza Company, causing a flurry of excitement from clients and workers. The Chocolate Pizza Company recalled another favorite movie. The store is a riot of happy colors reminiscent of a scene from “Charlie and Chocolate Factory.”

Bonnie asked, “What kind of pizza would you like? Dark chocolate or milk chocolate?” We opted for the dark chocolate. “Would you like a topping of nuts?” Of course!

The chocolate pizza is made from a time-tested, secret chocolate and toffee recipe nearly 100 years old. Bonnie came up with the pizza idea because she was frustrated with pouring the chocolate into tiny cups. The pizza pan was the perfect solution.

Everyone knows pizza and wings go together. So wings were soon added to the menu. To create the wings peanut butter is spread on a rippled potato chip and dipped in chocolate. Pizza and wings to die for!

There are more similarities between Zimmers and Chocolate Pizzas than one might suspect. Both companies were started by visionary, hardworking entrepreneurs with dogged determination to turn their dream into a reality. Both are unique products. Visitors to both businesses will find a United States map covered with colorful pins indicating where their creations have been delivered. It gives testament to the popularity of both products.

Both offer choices. The Zimmer comes in any color your heart desires and in two- and four-door models.  The Chocolate Pizza Company offers a variety of pizzas, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or white chocolate, plus other delectable treats, including truffles, chocolate-covered pretzels, and chocolate spoons.

Both are definitely tasteful, in a manner of speaking! The Zimmer’s dark black interior is embroidered with Zimmer logos, and the dark Chocolate pizza is topped with nuts or whatever your heart desires. And both make deliveries.

The Zimmer added a whole new concept to “we deliver.” We ended the test drive of the new Golden Spirit by making a “special delivery” of pizza and wings from The Chocolate Company to Shirley Zimmer, Art’s wife, who spent the day hard at work at the their other company, The Syracuse New Times.

People can order pizza and wings from The Chocolate Pizza Company. They can order a neo-classic car from The Zimmer Motor Car Company, and while both products are delivered, delivery of Chocolate Pizza and Wings in a Zimmer is not currently available.  But, who knows? It may be in the future!
