Will the Ladies who Lunch switch from tea to Chocolate?

I love chocolate in any form. I can eat it at home, on the road, from a wrapper or served on a delicate dish. But one of the most frankly feminine places to eat chocolate is in the back of the charming MarieBelle store on Broome Street in New York’s Soho district.

On a hot summer day recently after hours of serious shopping, my friend Edie and I needed some refreshments. We saw an ice cream cart shaded by an inviting umbrella. Ice cream sounded good. Shade sounded even better.

We slipped into the tiny, jewel like shop. We were offered delicious samples of a chilled Aztec chocolate drink. Then we spied the Cacoa Bar, a discreet chocolate sipping room behind the store. Small and exquisitely decorated, it was a true respite from the New York sidewalks

I ordered the Aztec Iced Chocolate (It comes in hot varieties, too). Edie had espresso. We both exercised our override options to resist the gorgeous baked goods behind the counter.  But we both plan to go back whenever we are in the neighborhood. Actually, Mariebelle is worth a trip to the sweet location. Or if you are as mad for the sipping chocolate as we were, you may want to buy a tin so you can make it at home.
