Dream Getaway at Dupont Circle Mansion October 19-21

Swann House, a historic inn in Washington D.C.'s Dupont Circle, is hosting a dream culinary experience for chocophiles October 19-21.  Chocolate connoisseur and author Clay Gordon is the featured host.

Gordon, an international chocolate critic, is the author of Discover Chocolate, an in-depth look at the diverse world of chocolate. The book covers learning to taste chocolate, how to buy chocolate, and how to pair chocolate with wines and other spirits—something weekend guests will get to experience first hand!

Gordon has been a guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, ESPN2’s Cold Pizza and Martha Stewart Living on Sirius Radio.  He has been a featured contributor to the Wall Street Journal, People Magazine and The New York Times Dining In section. He  founded The New World Chocolate Society to enhance consumer education into the diverse world of chocolate.

The Dream Weekend begins Friday, October 19, with a welcome reception during which Gordon will share some of his adventures in the world of chocolate.  A buffet dinner features the culinary creations from The Catering Company of Washington.

Saturday starts with a breakfast featuring chocolate, followed by a day of chocolate filled activities.  Gordon will give a morning chocolate making demonstration. Next guests will visit Biagio Fine Chocolate, the purveyor providing many of the wonderful chocolates  sampled at Swann House.  In the afternoon, Gordon will host a chocolate and wine paring session with instruction on ways to taste fine chocolate.  “From a chemical perspective, chocolate is absolutely the most complex compound known to science, with over 1500 identified flavor components (compared with about 500 in wine),” he says.

Dinner will have a chocolate-influenced menu highlighting the specialties of the season.  Guests can use their new-found knowledge to savor the wine selected to perfectly match each course. Dessert will be created by celebrity baker Warren Brown (host of Sugar Rush on the Food Network) and his CakeLove bakery.

Guests will take home an autographed copy of Discover Chocolate.

Swann House is a Richardson Romanesque mansion with 12-foot ceilings, original crown moldings, inlaid wood floors, crystal chandeliers, and elaborate fireplace mantels. Each guestroom is well-appointed with bath amenities, soft sateen sheets, down pillows and thick down featherbeds.  Select guestrooms feature whirlpool baths.

Washingtonian Magazine says, “Swann House is a great place to stay for a dream weekend.” What could be better than adding chocolate to those dreams?
