Gingerbread House with a Chocolate Pot of Gold

St. Patrick's Day is an unexpected (and often less-hectic) holiday to make a gingerbread house. How to Build a Gingerbread House by Christina Banner (Penny Press, 2008) includes directions for this adorable St. Patrick's Day gingerbread house.

It is made using everyday ingredients and basic kitchen equipment; no special cake decorating tools or skills are required. Easy recipes, step-by-step instructions and over 200 color photographs guide readers through the entire project. On the St. Patrick's Day design, windows are made from green-apple stick gum and are trimmed with spearmint Tic Tac candy. Also featured are green sugar-cookie roof shingles, icing shamrocks on the window sills, a rainbow path made of M&Ms, and a green coconut "lawn". Tiny "pots of gold" are made from Rolo chocolates and crushed butterscotch candy.
