Honolulu, Hawaii
by Madelyn Miller, the TravelLady

During my recent trip to Hawaii to judge the Kona Chocolate Festival, I had two great chocolate desserts in Honolulu.

The first was at Jimmy Buffets at the Beachcomber. Everyone knows Jimmy Buffets is a great place for drinks. But those in the know realize that the desserts are even more decadent than the drinks. Since chocolate is my "specialty," my friends indulged me in chocolate desserts on a visit to Jimmy Buffet’s at the Beachcomber, even though we were all stuffed from drinks and Volcano Nachos.

After seriously considering the scrumptious Chocolate Cake, we ordered the Chocolate Hurricane, a warm dark chocolate brownie layered with Dreyer's Vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream and chopped macadamia nuts. It was more than enough for three people, making it a big bargain for $6.95.

The next night, at Roy’s Restaurant, I had another superb chocolate encounter. This time with Roy’s Melting Hot Chocolate Souffle Flourless Chocolate Cake with a molten center; served with Raspberry Coulis and Vanilla Ice Cream. Chef Roy Yamaguchi, well known for his Hawaiian Fusion cuisine, is Hawaii's first recipient of the James Beard Award. He founded the first Roy’s Restaurant 20 years ago in Honolulu. There are now 34 in the U.S., Japan, and Guam.
