Saucepan Chocolate Cookies

2 cups sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup cocoa
1 stick (1/2 cup) butter
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 tsp vanilla
3 cups oatmeal
1/2 cup coconut or pecans (optional) 

Combine sugar, milk, cocoa, and butter in a saucepan.  Bring to a boil.  Remove from heat. 

Add peanut butter and beat until smooth. 

Add vanilla, oatmeal and coconut or pecans, and mix well. 

Drop on waxed paper and let cool.
