Chocolate Fantasy Buffets at Cape May’s Washington Inn

The Chocolate Fantasy Buffet at the Washington Inn in Cape May, NJ, is a chance for chocolate lovers to indulge their every desire, from the deepest, darkest chocolate mousse to delicate white chocolate crème brulee.

Kathleen Cressman, the inn’s Executive Pastry Chef, hosts four Fantasy Buffets a year, each with a dazzling array of dishes, many of which reflect the season. For example, an autumn Chocolate Fantasy Buffet might feature a seasonal carrot cake given a special twist using cocoa powder and warm chocolate-banana bread pudding. In addition to the seasonal creations, Chef Cressman often includes a rich chocolate truffle cake, towers of chocolate filled with mousse and fresh berries, three kinds of fondue and pots de crème.

Chef Cressman comes out of the kitchen and opens the event with a brief talk about her experience as a pastry chef. As guests enjoy her desserts, she remains in the dining room and answers questions about her techniques and inspirations for the creations. The interaction between the chef and the diners is an essential part of the Chocolate Fantasy Buffet.
