Eggtra Big Way to Say “Happy Easter!”

By Sandra Scott

How do Brazilians say “Happy Easter?” They say “Feliz Páscoa!” and present friends and family with a chocolate Easter Egg. And, not just any chocolate egg. In Sao Paulo, Easter eggs average about ten-inches tall and are filled with more chocolate. They are very “Eggtra” special chocolate eggs.

For that very, very special person, head to Daslu, a temple of luxury that will dazzle your senses. The only way to arrive at the palatial store is by helicopter or car—chauffeured, of course. There is no street entrance. Parking is $16 an hour. The doorman, dressed in spotless white jacket and a pillbox hat, will open the door to a world of excessive consumption. Daslu is a place that makes conspicuous consumption feel right and proper.

Bypass Armani, Chanel and the shop selling helicopters. Visit Pati Piva Chocolates where the staff—in French maid outfits—will help you pick out the perfect Easter egg. How much? If you have to ask, you’re in the wrong store. But, remember nothing says Feliz Páscoa in Brazil like a chocolate egg filled with bon bons presented in a bag from Daslu. Of course, if you want to make the occasion really egg-ceptional you can special order and have “a little something” from Cartier’s or H. Stern’s placed inside the chocolate egg instead of bon bons.

If paying several hundred dollars for one chocolate Easter egg doesn’t fit into your budget, then head to a Kopenhagen Chocolate store. Kopenhagen, considered Brazil’s finest chocolatier, has outlets in most malls and on Oscar Freire Street, the Rodeo Drive of Sao Paulo. Kopenhagen offers chocolate Easter eggs in the $125 range, filled, of course, with delectable chocolate surprises.

If $100 is still a bit more than you had planned to spend for one person, even a very special person, or if you have dozens of people to buy for, head to Pão de Açúcar. the Brazilian “Bread and Sugar” grocery story, where their fun-filled chocolate eggs range from $5 to $20. Their display says it all “Eat a lot of chocolate—it is wonderful.”

For the little princess in your life, consider a chocolate egg wrapped in paper depicting Snow White. The princess will find a special surprise inside and that little guy will love the car in the Hot Wheel chocolate egg.

In Sao Paulo there is a special chocolate Easter egg for everyone and for every pocketbook because they know it is important to “Eat a lot of chocolate – it is wonderful. Feliz Páscoa!
